National Junior Tennis League (NJTL)
Pee Wees
Target group: ages 5 through 6
This is an introductory instructional program for children ages 5 and 6. By age 5 most children have developed many of the gross motor skills necessary to move around the tennis court however their fine motor skills may still be awkward. These children like to run, be active and to hit tennis balls. In this class children will be challenged to develop skills while they have fun!!
Munchkins Ralleyball
Target group: age 7
This is an introductory instructional and play program for children aged 7. Ralleyball is designed to engage young children in participating in tennis as a team sport while having fun with their friends and learning skill. The traditional serve and scoring is altered to make it easy to be successful and fun right away while introducing concept, terminology and skills. This program may also suit 8 year olds who are small in statue or lacking confidence.
Youth
Target group: ages 8 through 18
Our youth NJTL program puts an emphasis on the team concept of fun, fitness and friends. The focus is to enjoy the exhilaration of exercise and to refine the skills that make tennis fun for players of all ages and levels of ability. Players will be assessed at registration and placed according to ability and age. All abilities welcome!
Players must stay within their appropriate age/grade group. FTA offers beginning, intermediate and advanced group lessons for children ages 8 to grade 5; 6, 7, 8th graders; and grades 9 - 12. Instructors may suggest movement between different skill groups during a session.
Tennis After-School
FTA offers after-school tennis programs and camps catered to meet each school's needs and desires. The Tennis After-School Program has brought the joy of tennis to many schools and clubs in the borough for 11 years. We are now in the process of recruiting tennis instructors and volunteers for the 2007-08 school year. We could really use your help!
We are encouraging all our tennis-playing teachers and parents to consider joining our teaching team this year! Whether it is one day, one month, or a set schedule, you can make tennis happen at a school or club in Fairbanks. Tennis After-School provides all the equipment and training needed to make these events fun and successful. You can work in your child's school, the school you teach in, or make new friends at other schools and clubs in Fairbanks. The more help we garner, the more rackets we will get into hands of our youth.
FTA will be putting together an instructor pool and programs
calendar. We would like to have this done by the end of the summer so
please consider helping out this year! Likewise, if you know a school
that would like to utilize our program, please contact: Leslie
Dolan, tldolan@acsalaska.net.
